The Naked Gun 91.38

91 year old Robert E. Thompson of Lake Worth, Florida heard his dog attacking an intruder at his house so he grabbed his .38 and went to help the dog out. The WWII vet fired a warning shot and held the intruder at bay until the police arrived.

Noteworthy, of course, is that Thompson sleeps in the nude. Caught up in the moment, he didn't even realize he was naked until the police arrived to arrest 26 year old burglar.

For those of you hoping to catch a picture of the naked nonagenerian, I'm afraid you're out of luck, but I did find a picture of Priscilla Presley, star of the Naked Gun films, which I hope will suffice.

Thompson is even older than Sue Erzan who earlier this month ran off an armed robber with a can of Raid.

Felonious Throwing of a Jellyfish

41 year old Keith Marriott was arrested in Madeira Beach, Florida after he repeatedly pretended to drown and assaulted other beach goers with jellyfish.

Apparently alcohol was involved.

Shockingly, the Beach Beacon did not cover the story.

Felonious Possession of Handcuff Keys

Michael Gonzales was arrested on August 16 for harassing women on the beach. He was charged with intoxication, marijuana possession, and two counts of felony handcuff key possession.

Prosecutor Barbara Teresa Govea explained to a surprised Judge John Thornton that it is an actual felony. The Florida Legislature enacted the law after two Tampa deputies and a state trooper were killed in 1998 by a murderer who was being detained for shooting a 4 year old boy, and who got out of his cuffs using a handcuff key on a necklace.

Gonzales was charged under code 843.021.c.2 for the possession of concealed handcuff keys. The charge carries a maximum term of five years. It is not clear why prosecutors felt Gonzales' actions on the beach (pictured) warranted the felony charge.

The good news is that the BDSM community need not be concerned as long as their keys are not concealed.

First the Hair Goes, Then the Museum

The Burt Reynolds & Friends Museum is one of the largest celebrity museums in the country...for the moment.
The not-for-profit museum opened in 2003. It houses a collection of movie and sports memorabilia including a Canoe from Deliverance, a key to the city of Piggott, AR, and Fred Biletnikoff's last jar of Stick-um. It is also home to the Burt Reynolds Institute for Film & Theatre (yes, with an "re").
However the building that currently houses it in Jupiter, FL (on US1, across from Chili's) has just been sold and will be torn down. Although 2500 square feet have been set aside for non-profit space in the new development, there is no guarantee the museum will get that space. "The museum needs to be more than acting classes, photos of Burt Reynolds with Loni Anderson, and canoes used in filming Deliverance," said Nick Mastroianni, a spokesman for the developer.
Perhaps Mr. Mastroianni was not aware of Fred Biletnikoff's jar of Stick-um.
