Analyze That!

For their senior project, Cornell students Miguel Salas and Robert Clain have invented a fart detector. I'm sure their proud parents are thinking that the $150K the spent to Ivy educate their kids was money well spent. Clearly computer geeks, their ranking scale goes from zero to nine. The emission is ranked on three qualities: stench, sound, and most importantly, temperature (the hotter the fart, the faster it spreads).
The pair have a few possible practical applications in mind. For example, veterinarians can "test the health of livestock through the quality of their farts," says Salas.
I have no punchline. I just can't believe they did this for their senior project.
