Analyze This!

It has been known for a quarter of a century that markers for lung cancer can be detected on someone's breath. A breathalyzer-like device under development by Hossam Haick and his colleagues (reported here and here in 2007, and here and here more recently), is built around the silicon-gold sensor shown on the right. They are still in studies, but hope to go to clinical trials in the next two or three years.
