ADHD? Jump the Queue

The ever inventive British theme park operators are at it again. Last month I wrote about the Say No to BO campaign, and now we have this little tidbit: if you have a hyperactive or ADHD child you can skip to the front of the line at the amusement park, all you need is a wristband. ADHD was recognized as a psychiatric condition 15 years ago.

A spokesman for Thorpe Park in Surrey said:
Any guest that can provide a letter [from the Department for Work and Pensions] or a letter from their doctor that describes their illness or disability and states that they cannot stand in a queue is provided with a priority wristband.
The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) puts a duty on attractions to accommodate the needs of all visitors.

For those of us on the left side of the Atlantic, the DDA "defines a disabled person as someone who has a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities." Some conditions, such as a tendency to set fires and hay fever, are specifically excluded.
